Rangers: McCoist denies ‘business’ talk with King

ALLY McCoist insisted yesterday that he has had no dialogue with Dave King, the billionaire who is trying to come up with a rescue package for Rangers, and would continue to stay out of off-field matters until the club’s future is resolved.

Controversial former Rangers director King was in Methil for Saturday’s 4-0 League 1 victory over East Fife and manager McCoist said that they only “exchanged pleasantries” afterwards, and have had no contact since.

Having welcomed the South African-based tycoon’s reappearance on the scene, McCoist clearly wants to steer clear of the latest scramble for control of the club, preferring to concentrate on salvaging the reputation of the team, continuing with tonight’s Ramsdens Cup semi-final against Stenhousemuir and Friday’s Scottish Cup third-round clash with Airdrieonians.

“I saw him briefly at the game and we exchanged pleasantries and we were talking about the match for a couple of minutes,” McCoist said yesterday when asked what contact he had had with King during his visit.

“He said he was impressed with the boys in the second half and one or two individuals and that was encouraging. I’m led to believe he’s either heading home or down south now. I haven’t had a chance to talk to him in great detail, but effectively it’s none of my business until such time as it should be and will be.

“At this moment in time it’s none of my business. Until someone makes it my business I wouldn’t comment on it.”
