Rangers look to bring Kenny Miller back to Ibrox

The forward is understood to be willing to take a cut in pay to leave Vancouver Whitecaps and return to Scotland with Rangers management also reported to have made contact with the MLS side.

Miller has 18 months left to run on his contract and it is expected that Ibrox chief executive Craig Mather will attempt to broker a fee with the Canadian side.

The player has been linked with a return to Ally McCoist’s sides several times this year however a previous move to bring him back to Glasgow after previous chief executive Charles Green Vetoed the deal.

Green was reported at the time to be unhappy to pay Miller relatively high wages with little return by way of a sell on for the 33 year-old.

Miller has also stated in recent months, in response to speculation over his future, that he has a contract to fulfil at the Whitecaps.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist said: “I want to put the record straight on something. I have a squad that contains youngsters who have not yet earned the right to be called Rangers first-team members.

“I can rely on 18 or 19 experienced players. That’s not a criticism of anyone.

“But in the meantime I have a budget that is a fraction of the size it once was and I need to get a striker who can complement Jon Daly by playing slightly behind him.

“I know who I want and I think he would be great for the club.”
