Despite the promising youngster already being one of the team’s top performers, Rangers may be forced to sell due to ongoing financial problems.

In late November it was announced the club required £8 million over the next 12 months to fill their financial void, with the first portion of that new funding needed in January 2015.

Their position is strengthened by the fact Macleod is under contract until 2017, and that several English top flight clubs are interested in acquiring the midfielder, which could start a bidding war.

Blackburn are keen to get their offer in early to avoid such complications and manager Gary Bowyer is said to be a big fan of the player who received a national team call-up for the international double-header last month.

Described by Ally McCoist as a “shining star” in what has otherwise been a rough season for Rangers, Macleod has already netted eight goals despite mainly featuring out of position on the left of a midfield four.
