Rangers chairman Malcolm Murray to stay on board

RANGERS chairman Malcolm Murray is to remain at Ibrox after settling a dispute with the club’s board.

Murray had been asked to consider his position this week with details of the strained relationship between the former fund manager and club chief executive Charles Green also emerging.

It has been reported that several board members had become uneasy about where and when Murray had been discussing club business.

Murray has no direct involvement in the day-to-day running of the club but is reported to have become frustrated with Green’s “abrasive” style of dealing with authorities and other clubs.

It is understood that the Rangers chairman has given assurances to the board on the issues raised by directors.

The club recently floated on the AIM stock exchange with analysts reporting that any instability in the boardroom could affect the club’s fledgling share price.

Lifelong Rangers fan Murray was brought on board at the time of Green’s takeover of Ibrox last summer and was considered key in winning over a support left sceptical from the Craig Whyte era.

The Rangers chairman, with his fund management background, is believed to have played an influential role in the club’s recent share issue which raised £22.2m.
