Rangers bid for four amid expected budget cut

• Rangers in bid to tie up deals for four players as budget set to be reduced

• Cammy Bell, Nicky Clark, Nicky Law and Jon Daly all in various stages of negotiation at Ibrox

A series of meetings between McCoist and chief executive Craig Mather has spelled out the need for prudent spending with regard to player budgets, in spite of the transfer embargo currently in place at Ibrox.

The embargo prevents Rangers from registering players before September 1.

Rangers are expected to announce the recruitment of Kilmarnock goalkeeper Cammy Bell, whose signature is all but secured.

Clark, whose goals led Queen of the South to the Second Division title, has already held talks with McCoist over joining.

Dundee United’s Jon Daly and Motherwell midfielder Nicky Law are also potential signings for McCoist, but they may be harder to procure thanks to rival interest from English clubs.

Daly is reportedly attracting attention from League One side MK Dons, while Championship side Birmingham are keen on signing Law.

McCoist is keen to recruit a further four players to the squad, but knows he will have to do so on a tighter budget than last year, which saw the arrival of the likes of Dean Shiels and Ian Black on comparatively big money.
