Mike Ashley wins right to challenge SFA’s Dave King ruling

A Court of Session in Edinburgh dismissed the call for the review to be stopped. A date has been set for a two-day hearing beginning April 28, 2016.

Ashley, through Mash Holdings, is challenging the SFA decision to allow King to become chairman of Rangers after granting him ‘fit and proper person’ status.

King had overthrown the previous regime at Ibrox after calling for an extraordinary general meeting. However, his previous conviction for tax offences in South Africa, along with him being a director of oldco Rangers prior to its liquidation, meant the governing body had to look into the businessman before he could become Ibrox chairman.

It’s the second victory for Ashley in as many days after he won the right to vote on Rangers matters as a shareholder.

The Ibrox board looked to try and pass a resolution at this Friday’s AGM blocking any shareholder with involvement in the running of another club from voting on Rangers matters.

The Sports Direct tycoon was granted an interim interdict by the Court of Session and the resolution was removed.
