Scotland’s isle of Arran has seen off competition from Mediterranean islands to be crowned the best European island for accommodation.

The results compiled by hotel search website, Trivago found the west coast isle had the best rated hotels among all of Europe’s islands, with an average visitor rating of 88.16.

Three quarters of the 20-strong-list was occupied by Greek destinations but Jersey (11) and Guernsey (15) also made it into the top 20 for the UK, with average ratings of 84.78 and 84.41, respectively.

Hotels on the Isle of Arran are typically praised for their homely atmosphere, great food and stunning surroundings.

Denise Bartlett, Communications UK & Ireland: “It is great to see the Isle of Arran soar to the top of our annual Island Ranking, which previously only included Mediterranean destinations and has been extended for the first time this year to cover all of Europe.

“Jersey and Guernsey should also be commended for their entries in the top 20, demonstrating the hard work from hoteliers on all three islands in building accommodation which is loved by guests and visitors.

“Arran, Jersey and Guernsey all have a lot to offer in terms of activities, quality accommodation and natural beauty and it is great to see them rival their Greek counterparts.”
