Scotland’s weather: 2ft of snow forecast

SNOW could fall in parts of Scotland this weekend with temperatures set to plummet and freezing gales of up to 70mph forecast.

Parts of northern Scotland could see the mercury dip below zero, with the rest of the country likely to experience temperatures close to freezing.

A cold front is moving southeastward on Friday with temperatures dropping nearly 10C behind it, with snow expected on higher ground.

Forecasters are warning of rough sea crossings, gales around western coastal aprts and up to 50cm of snow in the Highlands.

Next week is forecast to be cold, wet and windy, with Sunday night expected to see strong gusts of up to 70mph, with heaby rain sweeping the country.

And the odds of a white Christmas could be lowered with ‘wintry showers’ expected in the lead-up to December 25th - but forecasters are warning that a clearer picture will only become apparently around 10 days before Christmas day.
