Ross, Skye and Lochaber MP Ian Blackford told the Commons that he had been made aware that the 24-year-old from Fort William was in an induced coma in Paris having been injured in the attack at the music venue.

Mr MacDonald’s cousin Leah has been giving updates on Twitter on his condition, most recently tweeting that medics had saved his leg but his relatives did not know when he might wake up.

Mr Blackford MP asked the Home Secretary Theresa May what uspport could be given to Mr MacDonald and his relatives during a Commons statement.

Ms May replied: “We have also been looking at what assistance the Department of Health can give to France, particularly the issue of those who have been traumatised by the event.

“There is also consular assistance available from the British Embassy in Paris and the Foreign Office has sent a team over to Paris to help with that work.”

Leah tweeted that Mr MacDonald, who is believed to have a two-year-old daughter, had been found unconscious outside the venue with a head injury.
