Hutton back in role of chairman at Raith

Turnbull Hutton has been
appointed chairman of Raith Rovers in a boardroom reshuffle at the Kirkcaldy club.

Hutton, who previously held the position in 2004, has been holding the reins at Stark’s Park as one of two vice-chairmen, along with Mario Caira, since the departure of chairman Dave Somerville 18 months ago.

Hutton became the public face of the First Division club – and SFL clubs in general – due in large part to his outspoken views on Rangers’ demise and league reconstruction.

The retired former joint managing director of Diageo Operations Scotland has now been persuaded to take on the role formally but insists he hopes to step back out of the limelight whenever possible.

He said: “I am happy to help the club through the current turmoil in Scottish football, to what I hope will be calmer waters. At that point, I would hope to retake something of a back seat – more befitting of a man of my advancing years.”

With commercial director Bill O’Neil stepping down at the end of the year and lifelong supporter Tom Morgan joining the board, the shake-up is completed by secretary Eric Drysdale taking on the part-time role of chief executive. Drysdale said: “The challenge of helping shape the club for all the challenges ahead excites me. Our employees are our greatest assets and I look
forward to working with them.”
