A woman and man stranded in rising floodwater between Lennoxtown and Kirkintilloch dialled 999 around 11.30am, with a crew from Kirkintilloch fire station attending the incident.

Incident Commander Graeme Fyfe said that the couple had been in a car caught up in floodwater.

Mr Fyfe added: “The caller reported the water was at the bottom of the car’s window and when we arrived the level seemed to be rising.

“Firefighters utilised tow lines as they safely removed the man and woman from the vehicle and we requested an ambulance to check that they weren’t suffering from hypothermia.

“A paramedic assessed them both and thankfully neither required treatment.”

The pair were taken back home by ambulance, while fire crews left the scene around 12.15pm.

In a second incident, a taxi driver called for assistance around 2am, reporting that water had entered his vehicle in Drumchapel and was up to his waist.

Crews from Knightswood and Clydebank attended the incident and rescued the driver.
