Prince set to bring solo piano tour to Glasgow – reports

PRINCE may be set to return to Glasgow after a sell-out gig last year – but the US star’s latest tour will be a stripped-down affair as he embarks on a series of piano solo shows for the first time.

It is expected that the tour, entitled The Piano & the Microphone, will kick-off in Austria on 21 November before going on to tour four dates in the UK including Glasgow, according to reports.

At a press conference, the enigmatic star said: “Why do this now? For several reasons. For starters it is a challenge.

“I rarely get bad reviews because this is something that’s been perfected for over 30 years. You have to try new things. With the piano it is more naked, more pure. You can see exactly what you get.”

Prince is no stranger to the piano having released an entire album recorded at the piano in 2002, “One Nite Alone”, which included a cover of Joni Mitchell’s A Case of You.

Tracks from his back catalogue including The Beautiful Ones, Sometimes it Snows in April and How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore are also piano led.

The Purple Rain hitmaker has been no stranger to touring recently, having made headlines in 2013 with his Hit and Run tour which saw dates announced with less than 24 hours notice, and tickets sold for as little as £10.

He then returned to the UK last year for a short stint with his all-female band, 3rdEyeGirl.

It has been suggested that performances of Piano & the Microphone will have a different set list will every night.

Although it is yet to be confirmed, dates are said to be planned in Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and London.
