An 11-year-old boy was critically injured when he was hit by a van as he crossed the road.

The accident happened on Langside Drive on Glasgow’s south side on Thursday.

Police said the child was crossing the road near its junction with Monreith Road at about 4pm when he was struck by a Renault Trafic van.

He is being treated for a head injury at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where doctors described his condition as critical but stable. The 47-year-old van driver was not hurt.

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Sergeant Jackie Dunbar said: “Enquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash and I would urge anyone who witnessed it take place, or who has information that may assist this investigation, to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
