Gavin Gunning joins exodus at Dundee United

GAVIN Gunning, a one-time target for Rangers boss Ally McCoist, has left Dundee United a free agent with Sheffield Wednesday reportedly waiting in the wings.

The 23-year-old Irishman is one of five first-team players who will not rejoin Jackie McNamara’s squad after the summer.

Midfielder Mark Millar has been released from his contract, while like defender Gunning, French midfielder Morgaro Gomis and young striker Dale Hilson have left the club after their deals ran out.

Loan signing Farid El Alagui’s registration returns to Brentford, although the former Falkirk frontman is also out of contract with the London club.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Cup runners-up have also announced that youth-team players Ross Gilmore, Jordan Allan, Mark Russell, Phil Anderson and Luke Johnston have also been released.

But professional terms have been accepted by Harry Souttar - brother of first-team defender John - Jamie Robson, Matthew Smith, Greig McNaughton, Ryan Booth, Scott Allardyce, Ali Coote and Rafa Malaga.
