City Restaurant on Nicolson Street was established in 1995 by Guiseppe and Margerita Pia, and has been run by their son Marco and his wife, Joanne, since 2009.

Marco Pia said: “We felt that the decor in the dining area was getting a little bit tired, so we wanted to invest in refreshing it. The fact that it’s also the business’ 20th anniversary is a happy coincidence.

“As well as the dining area, we invested in the kitchen and on refreshing our branding. We’re now serving even better food to even more customers so the development has been a real success.”

The eatery’s revamp was supported with a £150,000 funding package from Clydesdale Bank, facilitated by Graeme Muir, relationship manager at the lender’s business and private banking centre in Edinburgh.

Stephen Buchan, head of the centre, said: “It’s great to see City Restaurant still looking for ways to improve its offering 20 years after opening.”
