Climber in hospital after fall onto rocks

A MAN was airlifted to hospital last night with suspected back and neck injuries after falling on rocks close to the Scottish Seabird Centre.

The 21 year-old, who is believed to be an experienced rock climber, was rescued by the Scottish Ambulance Service, North Berwick RNLI, North Berwick and Dunbar CRT and the Navy, after he was reported to emergency services at 5.25pm by a member of the public.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “The Scottish Ambulance Service received an emergency call at 5.25pm on Tuesday night and it was reported that a male had fallen on the rocks near to the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick.

“A local ambulance crew was dispatched to the scene and on arrival it was evident that it would be a difficult extrication and a Royal Navy helicopter was requested.

“The patient was subsequently winched by rescue 177 and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with suspected neck and back injuries.”
