An influential American newspaper has named Dundee in a list of the top 10 locations in the world to visit in 2018.

The City of Discovery came in at number five on the list from the Wall Street Journal, ahead of Shanghai, Madagascar Montenegro, La Rioja and Grenada.

Dundee was described as, “a coastal college town,” that has become “Scotland’s coolest city” by writer, Christian L. Wright.

The financial newspaper claimed the guide is designed for “adventurous sophisticates, curious foodies and deep-pocketed beach bums.”

The article praised the new V&A Museum of Design as “the centerpiece (sic) of a $1.5 billion transformation of the faded riverfront” which will “celebrate the country’s unsung design heritage—from jute to Minecraft’”.

City chiefs hope that the museum, which rises up to 60 feet tall, will help bolster Dundee’s bid to be crowned a European Capital of Culture in 2023.
