A 44-year-old man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a man was allegedly attacked with a chainsaw at a Dundee golf club.

Police were called to Caird Park in Dundee at about 4pm on Wednesday, where they found a man in his sixties with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Joe Brown, 44, was charged with attempted murder when he appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He also faced charges of assault to injury and danger of life, as well as under the Firearms Act and the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act.

The Crown Office said Brown, of Dundee, made no plea and was remanded in custody.

The case was committed for further examination and he is expected to return to court within eight days.
