The reptile, described as being “the thickness of an arm”, was reported to have disappeared between 8am and 6pm in Broughty Ferry on Tuesday.

Police Scotland said the snake, which went missing from the Portree Avenue area, was “very docile” and not thought to be any danger to the public.

Both police and the Scottish SPCA were involved in the search but officers confirmed that the snake had been traced at its owner’s house.
