The centrepiece of the market stalls will be an empty Dundee Foodbank table, which will be the focal point for visitors to a marketplace packed with local businesses.

During the festive season, shoppers looking for a local bargain are being encouraged to donate non-perishable food to the empty table over the course of the evening. The charity is looking for new donations as their work continues over the festive season.

Richard Cook, organiser of the Dundee Night Market, said: “It’s important to give something back. That’s why we’re continuing with our tradition of donating part of the proceeds from the market at Westport Wonderland to the Dundee Foodbank.

“So, if you can please bring a food donation along with you, a list of recommended foods can be found on the Dundee Foodbank website.”

The empty space in the Westport area of the city was formerly the Westport Gallery, until its closure in January this year. Now, the 1500sq ft space has been rejuvenated to show off the city’s most popular independent businesses.

The Westport area also featured as “The World’s Smallest Street Market” in July 2014 under Richard Cook’s organisation.

Businesses signed up to take part include fashion designers Hayley Scanlan and Kerrie Aldo, as well as Groucho’s record store and Barista Buddy coffee.

A festive nail bar by Glamrox will be provided, along with Richard Cook’s very own Spex Pistols - an independent spectacles retailer that has made frames for band members of The View, The Smiths and Deacon Blue.

Visitors to the market will also be treated to a Christmas café and bookshop, with the opportunity to buy real Christmas trees.

Westport Night Market is open from 3.00 – 8.00 pm at the old Westport Gallery, 48 Westport, Dundee DD1 5ER, while the Westport Christmas Wonderland lights switch-on is at 6.30 pm.
