Brewfest is a sellout success

The organisers of the inaugural Angus Brewfest had every reason to toast their success on Saturday following their sellout event in Forfar.

The Angus Brewfest brought together independent brewers and distillers whose products were enjoyed by over 500 supporters.

The event was organised by the Angus Farmers’ Market and its success will hopefully see it become an annual event.

The Strathmore Hall was the ideal venue to showcase the drinks produced by Ogilvy Vodka, the Gin Bothy at Lintrathen, Kirrie Ales and Mor Brewing from Kellas, to name but a few.

It was supported by people from all over Scotland who were keen to try cask ales, ciders, wine and spirits from many local producers with guest brewers from other parts of eastern 
Scotland.

The food producers all attend the farmers’ markets and they cooked up a storm with game burgers, hog roast and mac and cheese being among the favourites.

To add something different organisers decided to create a cocktail corner and they had a wonderful choice of exciting local products to choose from with Ogilvy Vodka and the Gin Bothy proving to be very popular with their stunning cocktails.

Claire Rennie from Summerhouse Drinks introduced Dark Matter a spiced rum from Aberdeenshire.

Claire makes delicious fruit lemonades and tonics that go perfectly added to spirits but are also delicious on their own.

Angus Brewfest organiser Carol Robbie told us: “We were so pleased to see so many people enjoy the night - it was a fantastic atmosphere.

“There were groups of friends and families all enjoying the experience with lots of dancing to the ceilidh band Clappy Doo. We have 
already been asked by happy Brewfesters the date for 2016 so not only do we have fantastic produce available in Angus we can now say we also 
throw a great party, so watch this space.”

The event was officially opened by Angus Depute Provost Alex King.

He said: “In this year of Scottish food and drink it is wonderful to see so many talented and successful producers at this showcase event.”
