Charles Green: ‘Rangers to England in 5 years’

CHARLES Green has restated his belief that Rangers will be playing in England in the next five years, while claiming that a pair of English football clubs have been offered to him as surrogates for a Rangers move.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Green said: “Two English clubs have come to me and said: ‘Buy us and close us down. Take us for free and take on the liabilities’.”

Green stated that he does not want a free pass to the Premier League, and that if he was offered the chance for his team to join the English top flight he would “turn it down”.

However, Green said: “What I do want to do is to start playing football in England, and knowing that if I win that league, I get promoted to the next one and the next one. And no one can stand there and say we can’t get promoted because you are a Scottish club.

“Could you imagine the income generation Rangers and Celtic would create in the Conference? Every Conference stadium would be full. And then to work through the leagues over the next three or four years would refresh English football because this staleness that is affecting Scottish football is prevalent here.”

Green also said that he is preparing a legal challenge to ensure Rangers’ passage into the English system. Rangers’ bids to move south have been repeatedly rebuffed by powerbrokers within the English game, with Premier League chief Richard Scudamore saying that he cannot see the League’s membership requirements ever changing to allow Scottish entrants.

Green said: “Under European law, (stopping us) is categorically a restraint of trade.

“It is clearly the same law as Bosman. If people think that is right, they are in cloud cuckoo land because it is not right. I am an outspoken Yorkshirman, I call a spade a spade and I say it.”

Green also claimed that at one point in his playing career, he was the fastest player in English football. “I was a fantastic goalscorer,” he said. “I wasn’t like Messi but there was no-one in England who could catch me. I was so quick.”
