Boroughmuir 18 - 31 Hawick: Visitors leap into top 4

Hawick moved into the top four of the BT Premiership at the expense of their opponents when they turned on the style to post an impressive win and atone in part for their loss against Boroughmuir in last season’s Scottish Cup final, writes Colin Renton at Meggetland.

Hawick lost the services of John Coutts after only 16 minutes and it was his replacement Lee Armstrong who did much of the damage for the Borderers.

Within a minute of his arrival, he had opened the scoring with a penalty and, after Dougie Steele had replied in kind for the hosts, he kicked ahead for Craig Russell to score in the corner, then added the touchline conversion.

Armstrong then sparked the move that ended with Wihan Griebenhow powering over for try number two. The replacement added the extras and did so again after freeing Ali Weir for the third touchdown.

Steele booted another penalty for a 24-6 half-time score line then Griebenhow sprinted in for the bonus point score six minutes after the restart and Armstrong added the extra points.

Callum Reid forced his way over for Boroughmuir, with Steele converting, and Craig Marshall added another try with 13 minutes to play but that was as close as the hosts would get.
