George McCarrick was last seen on CCTV in the Glen Loy area of Darnley, south west of the city centre, last month.

It is understood his body was recovered from the Brock Burn in Darnley at around 10:10am
on Monday. Mr McCarrick’s family have been told of the discovery.

The 31-year-old, from the city’s Pollok area, suffered from memory loss and was known to travel around the Glasgow and Clydeside areas using lifts from friends.

In a police appeal earlier this month, Mr McCarrick was described as having a “somewhat itinerant lifestyle.”

Police Scotland’s Inspector Andy Small said that Mr McCarrick tended to stay with friends and family rather than at any one specific address.

However, police appealed for information about his disappearance after relatives expressed concern when he failed to get in touch after a “good while”.

Although formal identification has yet to take place, it is believed his body was discovered in a wooded area between Darnley’s Glen Loy Place and Ben Aigan Place.

The death is being treated as unexplained and a report will be sent to the procurator-fiscal.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: “A body has been recovered from the Brock Burn, Darnley, Glasgow at around 10:10am on Monday.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

“Formal identification is yet to take place, however, the body is understood to be that of missing man George McCarrick. Relatives have been informed.”

The force added: “Police are treating the death as unexplained at this time and a report will be sent to the procurator-fiscal.”

Visitors to the Facebook page of Police Scotland’s Greater Glasgow division yesterday left tributes to Mr McCarrick and expressed sympathy for his loved ones.
