Ally McCoist faces ban from Ricksen tribute match

ALLY McCoist, the former Rangers manager, is set to be forced to stay away from a tribute game in honour of Fernando Ricksen.

Reports indicate that the terms of McCoist’s gardening leave forbid him to enter Ibrox or Murray Park - which means that he will not be able to play any part in the Dutchman’s benefit match on Sunday.

McCoist was replaced by assistant Kenny McDowall in December after handing in his resignation. After initially saying he would see out the remainder of his 12-month notice period, McCoist was placed on gardening leave by the board - meaning that the cash-strapped club avoided a hefty payout.

But the door may not be completely closed on a brief return to Ibrox for McCoist, who had hoped to play a part in the game. He may ask Derek LLambias, the chief executive, to allow him permission to attend.

Ricksen, who was capped 13 times for the Netherlands, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2013. The benefit game is due to take place on Sunday.
