Albion Rovers out to end losing slump

Bottom-of-the-table Albion Rovers are running out of games to make a serious attempt of staying up after Saturday’s 5-1 defeat from Alloa made it nine defeats in a row from Todd Lumsden’s side.

A victory over visitors Stenhousemuir tonight would eat into Stranraer and East Fife’s 12-point advantage with Lums-den admitting that a step up in performance is required to break their poor run. He said: “We have to put in a solid 90 minutes to start winning games. We gave Alloa a two-goal start on Saturday as we were poor in the first half and that left us with a mountain to climb.”

Meawnhile, Ayr United are out for revenge over Brechin City following their 2-1 defeat at Glebe Park a fortnight ago with a win also having the effect of lifting the Honest Men at least one place closer to the play-offs.

The Somerset Park side are on a high after Michael Moffat’s four-goal salvo in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Arbroath. Player/manager Mark Roberts said: “We could not ask to be going into this game with a better result behind us. We have given ourselves another shot at the play-offs and we have to take it.”

For Brechin, the game starts a run of five midweek matches in a row.
