Wood Group to create 100 jobs with $90m deal in Iraq

Oil and gas services giant Wood Group has won a $90 million (£60m) engineering contract in Iraq.

The Aberdeen-based firm said the deal, with an unnamed blue-chip international oil company, will create more than 100 jobs and retain a further 20 roles.

Under the three-year contract, Wood will provide project management, as well as concept and front-end engineering design work for an onshore facility. Personnel working on the project will be based in the group’s offices in Iraq and Dubai.

This is reflected in our creation of another office in Dubai, which adds to our presence in the Middle East and our commitment to developing local talent, creating job opportunities and building relationships with the supply chain in Iraq.”

The Iraq deal comes a month after Wood secured a “multi-million” dollar contract with oil major BP. Under the five-year deal, the group’s Kenny division will provide engineering services to BP’s existing subsea infrastructure in the Gulf of Mexico, UK and Norwegian continental shelves and offshore Azerbaijan.
