The female driver of the car involved in the accident was taken to hospital in Aberdeen to be treated for minor injuries.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that two men have died following a collision on the A90 Foveran to Balmedie road near Hatterseat at around 1.20pm.

“The collision involved two HGVs and a car. Both men had been driving a HGV. The female driver of the car was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also attended at the scene of the crash yesterday.

It is understood the accident happened on the northbound carriageway, however traffic was also stopped from travelling in the opposite direction.

The road, which carries a high volume of HGVs heading to and from Peterhead and Fraserburgh, was expected to remain closed last night as a collision investigation got under way.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may be able to help with the investigation to come forward.

Sgt Steve Manson of the Trunk Road Policing Group said: “We would appeal for anyone who was in the area around the time of this collision and saw what happened to contact us.”
