Teenager appears in court over Bailey Gwynne death

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court for the second time in connection with the death of Bailey Gwynne, who was fatally stabbed at an Aberdeen secondary school.

Bailey, a pupil at Cults Academy, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the incident last Wednesday but died a short time later.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, first appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court last Friday charged with murder.

The boy also faced charges under the section of the Criminal Law (Consolidation) Act which makes it an offence to have an article with a blade or point on school premises.

He has now been fully committed and will remain in custody.

Cults Academy was closed last week following the incident but re-opened on Monday.

As pupils returned to classes, Bailey’s family thanked people for the support they have received.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, the teenager’s family said: ‘’Thank you for all your help, your kind words and the lovely things you have left for Bailey.”
