Helicopter causes emergency at Aberdeen airport

The CHC operated chopper was heading towards Aberdeen when a warning light came on in the cockpit.

Pilots travelling in the aircraft alerted traffic control at the city airport and three fire engines were scrambled to the scene.

The helicopter landed safely and no-one was injured during the incident.

A CHC spokeswoman said: “A CHC helicopter landed safely at Aberdeen Airport at approximately 10.15am today.

“The aircraft was inbound and, in accordance with operating procedures, the crew requested priority landing from air traffic control.

“Emergency service vehicles are deployed only as a precaution.”

The aircraft has now been taken out of service and will be fully inspected by engineers.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed the emergency services were called out to Aberdeen International Airport yesterday.

She said: “The fire service were in attendance but weren’t required.”
