Camelot has made major changes to the National Lottery draw, leaving players across the country outraged.

The biweekly raffle as part of the National Lottery draw used to guarantee a million pound cash prize, but the raffle has now been dropped.

Organisers say bigger cash prices in the main Lottery game make up for the change, but the new rules mean that players will only win £1 million if they match five balls plus the bonus ball – there is no longer any other way to hit the jackpot.

The changes have been met with much anger, with one player calling the whole game “pointless”.

The new rules

Now, matching five balls without the bonus ball will win players £1,750 (previously £1,000), matching four balls will win £140 (previously £100) and £30 for three numbers (previously £25). Two main numbers will still win the player a free lucky dip.

There have also been changes to how the rollover works. The new rules mean the jackpot will be rolled over five times, with the fifth rollover now defaulting to a ‘Must Be Won’ draw.

If that is not claimed, there will then be a roll down, where the jackpot is shared among all cash winners. For example, matching three numbers could result in a £100 prize instead of £30.

Changes to EuroMillions

EuroMillions is also going to be changed, with the number of UK Millionaire Maker prizes changing from two winners for every draw to just one.

The National Lottery changes came into force on 28 November, and the new EuroMillions rules will be rolled out next year.

‘Rubbish prizes’

Players are not impressed with the changes and have taken to social media to vent their frustration.

On Twitter, Joe Stones, (@TerrorHurts) said, “Where’s the raffle gone? Prizes are now rubbish. Thanks for making it pointless to play.”

Jason Hyden (@jayhyd3n93) wrote, “@TNLUK such a waste of money now, you have now removed the guaranteed millionaire raffle from the draws and instead it could be 2-3 weeks before a millionaire is possibly made, con Artists taking money and people are falling for it. Camelot bosses do it for themselves not players.”

Despite the changes, Camelot has said the odds remain the same as they were previously, but the jackpot will be won more often because it is now only allowed to roll over five times.
