A giant inflatable Santa Claus came loose from its moorings yesterday (27 Nov), causing traffic chaos in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.

The AA’s official traffic alert read, “Partially blocked and slow traffic due to a large inflatable Santa on road on B198 Cromwell Road both ways in Wisbech.”

Footage of the escaped Santa Claus was captured by Peterborough Telegraph reader and taxi driver, Muhammad Fareed, who filmed the incident at around 1:30pm yesterday afternoon.

When contacted, Cambridgeshire Police said they had not been notified of the obstruction. Traffic was still able to pass the scene as only one lane of the road was blocked, but there were delays in either direction.

“I saw it wobble and then come down on to the road – it did raise a smile,” Mr Fareed told the BBC.

“It was massive – bigger than my seven-seater car.
