Aldi set to bring back the Big Daddy steak for one day only

Aldi’s massive rump steak, The Big Daddy, is set to make a return to the supermarket shelf this week but for one day only.

The rump steak, which costs just £4.99, weighs in at a whopping 454g/16oz and will be available in stores on Thursday 18 January.

The extra-thick rump steak will also only be available whilst stocks last.

The German supermarket claims that the steak is 100g heavier than its closest rival Tesco, whose Finest rump steak weighs just 350g - and is also 42 per cent cheaper per kg than Tesco's.

Aldi's Tony Baines said, "This premium British rump steak is an example of Aldi’s commitment to offering quality, locally-sourced products at amazing low prices, once again allowing customers to make substantial savings on luxury products without compromise."

The return of the Big Daddy will make welcome news for steak lovers who rushed to buy the heavyweight cut of beef when it sold out on Father's Day 2017 and later returned for the August Bank Holiday weekend.

An Aldi spokeswoman added: "The rump is made up of several different muscles from the rear. It’s a lean steak with a great mix of texture and rich flavours.

"It has the benefits of a fillet, but with more flavour. It is best thick-cut and cooked over a very high heat, with a generous resting time up to 10 minutes."
