Micky Mellon’s Dundee United side have enjoyed a resurgence of late with two wins in a row – the first time they’ve managed such a sequence all season. The double puts a more favourable slant on United’s seventh place after going 15 games and just three wins since mid-October.

Rangers are on the back of an enthralling, and exhausting, 4-3 win over Royal Antwerp in the Europa League and remain unbeaten in all but one of their games this season. Indeed Steven Gerrard’s side has conceded just ONCE at Ibrox in the league this season – so Nicky Clark and Lawrence Shankland have their work cut-out.

Team news

Kemar Roofe is out suspended after his retrospective ban for a bookable offence against St Johnstone which landed him a controversial two-game suspension. The striker limped out of the game against Royal Antwerp so would be a doubt anyway, however Jermain Defoe comes back into the reckoning for Rangers. James Tavernier was due to have a scan on his knock incurred in the same game on Saturday with Steven Gerrard hinting Leon Balogun would be his preferred short-term option at right-back.

Calvin Bassey, Nathan Patterson and Bongani Zungu will not be involved as the first-team fringe trio are isolating.

Dundee United will be without suspended Peter Pawlett and fellow midfielder Dillon Powers because of a head injury. Forward Logan Chalmers is in contention.

Previous Meetings

United have a reasonably good record against Rangers over the past dozen encounters between the sides. The Tangerines have won five of the last 12 meetings – including two Scottish Cup wins at Ibrox.
