Rangers accept Alfredo Morelos' three match ban for stamp flashpoint with Hibs' Porteous

Alfredo Morelos will miss Rangers’ next three matches after the club accepted an SFA disciplinary charge of violent conduct.

The 11-goal striker was at the centre of controversy in the first half of last week’s 1-0 win at Easter Road, appearing to stamp on Hibs defender Ryan Porteous before hitting the second-half winner in Rangers’ victory.

He avoided punishment at the time and referee Kevin Clancy described the incident as ‘a tangle of legs’ to Hibs boss Jack Ross, but the Colombian was offered a three-match punishment in a fast-track tribunal from Hampden’s disciplinary chiefs after review of the incident.

Rangers have now accepted the 24-year-old’s charge and punishment for the stamp, ruling the striker out of this week’s matches against St Johnstone and Hamilton as well as the home game against Kilmarnock next weekend.

The ban is Morelos’ second post-match suspension this term having already been cited by the compliance officer for violent conduct against Dundee United in December, missing two games.
