£200,000 worth of cannabis seized after police chase BMW and Mercedes from M74 into Lockerbie

More than £200,000 worth of cannabis has been seized and three men arrested after a routine police patrol on the M74 sparked a pursuit of BMW and Mercedes through the streets of Lockerbie town centre.

Road Policing officers in Dumfries and Galloway recovered cannabis with an estimated street value of £210,000 in the incident on Saturday.A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 1.30pm, officers engaged in a short pursuit with a BMW and a Mercedes, which failed to stop on the M74 Glasgow to Carlisle road. The vehicles were followed to the B7068, Lockerbie, driving in an erratic manner.“The Mercedes and its two occupants were traced near to Lockerbie High Street. While the BMW was found abandoned in a field near to Haas Farm and its driver was traced shortly afterwards, with the assistance of a dog unit.”A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with drugs and road traffic offences. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow. Two further men, both aged 26, were arrested and released pending further enquiries.Detective Sergeant Andrew McDowall, from Dumfries CID, said: “This recovery, and the good work involved from Road Policing officers and our dog unit, shows that criminals may try to evade us, but we will use every tool and tactic at our disposal to remove illegal drugs from our communities.“If you have any information or concerns about drug misuse or wider criminality in your area, do not hesitate to contact us on 101 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
