Positive improvement from Dundee United says boss Micky Mellon after Rangers defeat
United gave a good account in the early stages - testing Allan McGregor three times through Louis Appere and Lawrence Shankland - before Rangers marched into a 4-0 lead, only to be pegged back by a late drive from Marc McNulty in the 87th minute.
Mellon said there was “an awful lot good about the performance” from his side and grounds for optimism to become a “top-end team”.

Hide AdHe said: “We wanted to show a level of improvement and I believe we did that and our work-rate was fantastic from minute one to the very end and we scored a good goal that we very much deserved.
“When you come to places like this and when you get opportunities you must take them if you're going to be successful, and other things have got to go for you.
“There are bits of detail that we need to get better at. We need to get out and block things early - there are too many people standing in the 18 yard box for the first two goals.
“If we are going to be a top-end team we need to get out and see things earlier. Good players which I think Dundee United players can become will get out to them, but Aribo’s strike is a great strike,” he told DUTV.
“We will keep going forward. We are disappointed to have lost a game of football to Rangers but we understand that we are an improving group and there is an awful lot good about our performance.”
