Sky Sport pundit believes there should've been red card for tackle on Jeremie Frimpong as Neil Lennon has his say on incident

Motherwell striker Devante Cole has been described as “very fortunate” for escaping with a yellow card for a challenge that could have done “serious damage” to Celtic’s Jeremie Frimpong.

The defender was forced off in the second half of Celtic’s 4-1 victory at Fir Park after failing to recover from the tackle, which saw the attacker put his studs into the knee of his young opponent.

Sky Sports pundit James McFadden said on the live broadcast: “Cole is very fortunate. I think Frimpong is very fortunate that his whole weight isn’t planted.

“There’s no doubt for me it’s a red card. He’s very lucky not to be sent off. I’ll be surprised if there’s no serious damage to Frimpong. I hope there isn’t because you never want to see players get injured.”

Celtic boss Neil Lennon earlier answered: “He’s high and he’s late. In fairness to Devante, he looks like he’s tried to pull out of it, but it could have been a red.”
