It was a timely boost after the dreadful performance on Friday night which saw Micky Mellon’s men lost 2-1 at home to Livingston having taken a half-time lead.

United fans face a wait for the player to make his debut, the 22-year-old required to self-isolate for 14 days after arriving in the country from Spain.

Fuchs is a combative midfielder who will be moving to his fifth country in his nascent career.

He is a Cameroon international, making his debut against Brazil in 2018, who has turned out for France’s U19 and U20 sides. With the U19s, he featured alongside Kylian Mbappe.

Career so far

The soon to be 23-year-old joined French side Sochaux as a teenager and made his debut for the first-team in the French second tier at 17 in 2015.

The 2105/16 season saw him become an integral part of the Ligue 2 side, playing in a variety of positions.

Across four season he played more than 110 times for the club, eventually settling into a defensive midfield role and being given the captaincy during season 2018/19.

After four campaigns of either relegation battles or finishing mid-table, La Liga side Alaves signed him, but it was a move which never worked out. He didn’t feature before being shipped out to Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, playing a handful of games last season.

Style of play

The first thing that should be noted is that United are signing someone who won't wilt within the hectic nature of Scottish football’s midfield battles. In fact, it is something the player will relish.

His last appearance came in a huge top of the table clash with Maccabi Tel Aviv in front of more than 30,000 fans and the player thrived despite the late 4-3 defeat. He is hugely combative, looking to press and close down opponents when the opportunity presented itself.

Sitting at the base of the midfield, he provided the team with a defensive platform, really aggressive in how he attacked the ball when it was in the air or he went to engage an opponent.

In possession, he was impressive keeping it simple unless there was a forward pass. He would show the ambition to fire one into the attacking third at pace and with accuracy.

His energy out of possession and willingness to get on the ball will be a nice addition to the United midfield.

What has been said of Fuchs:

Dundee United boss Micky Mellon: “He is a talented lad who will add to the product that is Dundee United and he will help us to move the club forward. "I’m excited that Jeando has finally signed. He is someone that will make our team better and that is the type of signings we need to be making. He is experienced even at a young age and from speaking to him he is hungry to do well for United.”

Badou Sambague, Fuchs’ representative: “He went to Alaves with more than 100 professional appearances under his belt at the age of 21. He became a Cameroonian international. He was one of Sochaux’s best players.”
