Euromillions lottery winner claims £107.9m win

The claimant, whose identity has not been disclosed, has now staked their claim following Friday night’s draw.

They had the only ticket to hit the jackpot, making them the National Lottery’s fourth biggest winner.

A National Lottery spokesman said: “We’re delighted Friday’s ticket-holder has come forward to claim this amazing prize. This massive win ranks fourth biggest on the National Lottery rich list and is the first EuroMillions jackpot to be won here in the UK so far this year.”

Subject to validation, the windfall could be paid out once the banks open on Monday. The ticket-holder can then decide whether or not to go public.

It is not known at the moment where the winning ticket was bought, or whether it was won by an individual or a syndicate.

The life-changing sum could help the winner buy their own Greek island such as Omfori, currently being advertised for just over £41m and a Lamborghini Veneno, one of the world’s most expensive cars at a cost of £2.4m, and have plenty left to spend.

Or they could splash out most of the money in a single purchase to buy a 21-bedroom home in London’s Mayfair, which is on the market for £90m.

The £107.9m jackpot winner would be the 745th richest person in Britain. Their fortune would narrowly outrank that of pop stars George Michael and Robbie Williams, who reportedly are worth about £105m each.

Top of the National Lottery Rich List is former STV cameraman Colin and his wife Chris Weir, who banked a £161m EuroMillions jackpot in July 2011.

The husband and wife, from Largs in Ayrshire, said they were “tickled pink” after becoming Europe’s biggest lottery winners in July 2011.

Married for 30 years and with two children, the win catapulted them into the Sunday Times Rich List above Beatle Ringo Starr and Sir Tom Jones.

They bought a fleet of cars for friends as well as a mansion and handed large sums to charities and the pro-independence campaign Yes Scotland.

Behind them are Adrian and Gillian Bayford who won £148,656,000 two years ago.

Children’s nurse Gillian, 40, and record seller Adrian, 41, from Haverhill, Suffolk, said they planned to fork out on luxury holidays and cars when they won in August 2012.

However, their marriage broke down with news of their split emerging the following year.

Several other big winners are also have reported to have split, possibly due to the pressure and publicity of winning.

They include Les Scadding, 58, and his wife Samantha Peachey-Scadding, 38, from Caerleon, South Wales, who bought one of two winning tickets which shared a £90 million jackpot in 2009.

Friday night’s main numbers were 6, 24, 25, 27 and 30, with lucky star numbers 5 and 9.
