Mike Edwards aids fund to help soldiers beat stress

SCOTTISH Television news reporter Mike Edwards has been appointed as an ambassador for a fundraising body for a charity that supports soldiers affected by combat stress.

Mr Edwards, 47, who is a serving officer with the Territorial Army, will represent Friends of Hollybush House, a group that supports the work of Combat Stress in its residential base in Ayrshire.

He was called up to serve with the British First Armoured Division in Iraq ten years ago and also saw action in Afghanistan.

It was this experience that prompted the charity to approach Mr Edwards to become an ambassador.

Stephanie Young, chairperson of Friends of Hollybush House, said: “We set up Friends of
Hollybush House to lend support to the great work done by Combat Stress at the house itself and through its outreach projects,

“Many veterans experience feelings of isolation and alienation, and our aim is to remind them that they are not alone, we care and want to support them through their troubles.

“For this reason, we approached Mike and are delighted to welcome him as a worthy ambassador,” Ms Young added. “He understands exactly what many have gone through and has great empathy, which will prove invaluable.”
