Body found in hunt for missing Beauly photographer

A body has been discovered from a Highland river where a wildlife photographer went missing in November.

Police searches for 61-year-old Gordon Dawson resumed on Thursday as scheduled work at the Aigas Dam on the River Beauly resulted in water levels being reduced.

A Northern Constabulary spokeswoman said the operation resulted in a body being found.

However, as there has not been any formal identification, the force was unable to confirm whether it was Mr Dawson, who lived alone at nearby Teannassie in Beauly.

The alarm was raised in November last year when some of his photography equipment was found at he dam. He was known to regularly go to the spot to photograph various wildlife, including otters.

Initial searches involved members from the Grampian Police Underwater Unit, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team, specialist sniffer dogs and a plane from the charity SkyWatch.

They were eventually called off until the opportunity arose this week to resume a search with schedule works requiring the water levels to be lowered.
