Vegware set for surge in US sales

Biodegradable food packaging specialist Vegware has predicted a major boost to its sales after securing a deal with a US distribution network.

The Edinburgh-based firm’s products are already available in the US, but founder and managing director Joe Frankel said the alliance with Berk Enterprises, which comes amid a growing crackdown on plastic foam containers around the world, marked a “step change” for the company.

Robert Berk, head of the Ohio-based provider of catering products, said it would be supplying Vegware’s compostable packaging to more than 100 distributors and thousands of food companies. He predicted sales will rise 15 per cent initially, “with substantial growth expected in coming years”.
