Perth-based Green Highland Renewables said the new hydro scheme at Loch Eilde Mor above Kinlochleven is one of a number of projects the firm is looking to develop across the Highlands.

Chief executive Mark Mathieson said the initiative, fully funded by the hydro firm’s owner Ancala Renewables, “marks the start of an extremely busy two years for our firm”.

Mathieson added that, over the last four years, the company has built and commissioned 25 schemes across the Highlands, investing some £62m in the process.

“Add to this the £25m we have committed so far to new schemes this year, and it is clear our hydro projects will make a significant positive impact on the Highland economy.”
