Zoo quizzed over escapes

bosses at Edinburgh Zoo are to face questions over animal escapes after safety chiefs from the city council demanded a meeting.

It comes after a 95-stone Heck bull got loose this week, forcing visitors and staff to take refuge indoors.

The bull was eventually subdued with a tranquiliser gun but later had to be put down.

In the past year, the zoo has also seen escapes by a family of hogs, an ibis and a baboon.

The council, which licenses the zoo, said they wanted to discuss “recent incidents” with the zoo.
