Zoo prepares to swing back into action after big freeze

EDINBURGH Zoo is today hoping to fully open its doors to members of the public after being forced to close during the recent cold snap.

Since Christmas Day, the animal kingdom has not been operating at full capacity because of hazardous snow and ice on its pavements.

The bottom half of the venue has been open to the public since Thursday at a half-price entry of 5.

It is thought that the zoo has lost up to 75,000 in revenue since the big freeze began.

A zoo spokesman said: "We're hoping to open the rest of the park today, but we would still advise that anyone looking to visit to calls us in advance or checks the website."

She added: "The animals have been coping well in the weather conditions.

"They all have indoor areas where they can retreat if the elements are proving to be too cold for them."
