Zoo delight at female bush baby arrival

KEEPERS at Edinburgh Zoo are celebrating the news that one of two bush babies is the first female to be born at the zoo in five years.

The sex was confirmed by vets carrying out routine micro- chipping and DNA sampling on the four-month-olds.

The check-up process was filmed by staff and can be viewed on the dedicated Edinburgh Zoo channel on YouTube.

Darren McGarry, animal collections manager at the zoo, said: "While any parent would be delighted with a baby of either sex, this one is particularly special as it is the first female of this species to be born at Edinburgh since the pair arrived in 2005."

The twins have been named as Bonbon and Belle.
