• Missing student Yulia Solodyankina may have taken a bus to the north of Scotland, police believe

• Edinburgh University student was last seen on Friday, June 7 at Glasgow’s Buchanan Street bus station

The last known sighting of the 22-year-old was on the concourse of Buchanan Street bus station in Glasgow, at about 4:55pm on Friday, 7 June.

No new information has come to light since, but a number of the buses in the station at the time were heading either north or to the far west.

Police believe Fort William or Inverness were her most likely destinations. They are also carrying out inquiries in Largs, Campbeltown, Ardrishaig and Oban.

Yulia, who speaks fluent English with a Russian accent, is of medium build, about 5ft 6ins tall, with long, dark brown hair and with a small mole on her left cheek.

Chief Inspector Mark Patterson, of Police Scotland, said: “Yulia was last seen on CCTV at Buchanan Street bus station, and from there we think she may have travelled either to the Highlands or to Argyll and Bute.

“Our belief is based on previous visits that Yulia made to some of these areas, along with the destinations of buses that left from Buchanan Street station around the time she arrived there from Edinburgh on Friday, June 7.

“It is now almost a month since Yulia was last seen, and we remain keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard from her since she went missing.

“In particular, we want to speak to anyone in the areas where Yulia may have travelled to by bus from Glasgow, who thinks that they may have seen her.”

Since she went missing, a series of tributes have been paid to Yulia, who had been due to collect a physics degree from Edinburgh University this week.

Her boyfriend, Antoine Dao, has said she was “very stressed” over her exams prior to her disappearance. However, friends have said they cannot understand why she would have left.

Her mother, Ekaterina, appealed to her directly, saying: “Come back. We love you very much.”
