Young crash victim still in stable state

A SCHOOLGIRL left fighting for life after a fatal crash which killed two others remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Kaya McInnes, 13, is in intensive care in Edinburgh's Royal Hospital for Sick Children. The James Gillespie's High School pupil - who suffered bleeding and swelling to her brain, a punctured lung, broken ribs and a suspected fractured pelvis - was moved from the Western General last week.

The day before her transfer, she opened her eyes and moved her hands, arms and legs after she was taken off a strong sedative, designed to stop her from making her injuries worse.

However, doctors at the Sick Kids decided to put her back on the sedative following her transfer.

The fatal accident on the A9 in the Highlands happened on March 24.

The car's driver, Jim McKinlay, 50, an amateur referee and family friend from Gilmerton, and Kaya's aunt, Elizabeth Foley, both died at the scene.
