Wounded Scottish soldiers to take part in cycle event

A “JOCK mafia” of wounded soldiers are cycling from the Capital to London as part of the Help For Heroes charity campaign.

The ten soldiers will be led by Jonpaul Nevin, who is originally from Edinburgh and once cycled 3051 miles across America in just seven days.

Thousands of cyclists from across the UK will congregate in the Blackheath area of London on June 2, before later laying a wreath at the Cenotaph.

Mr Nevin, the lead strength and conditioning coach at Help for Heroes, said: “Taking part in Hero Ride is a natural progression.

“We want to encourage more wounded soldiers to get into cycling. Sport is a key part of the recovery process – it enables an individual to focus on what they can achieve, rather than what they can’t.”

Bryn Parry, CEO of Help for Heroes, said: “With the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan coming ever closer, people will think that the job is done.”
